Practical Questions about Therapy
Straight from Heart Questions
It's one of the most common questions, and a very fair one! Here's a simple way to think about it:
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication.
A psychologist has an advanced degree in psychology and works through conversation, assessment, and therapeutic techniques — no prescriptions.
A counsellor typically offers shorter-term support for specific life challenges.
A therapist is a broader term that can include psychologists, counsellors, and specialists like art therapists.
At Tune2Rhythm, your sessions are led by a trained psychologist and art-based psychotherapist — which means we use the power of creative expression alongside psychological understanding to support your emotional wellbeing. No medication, no diagnosis labels — just a safe, creative space that is entirely yours.
No medication is ever given or prescribed here. As an art-based psychotherapist and psychologist, the work we do together is entirely through creative expression, reflection, and conversation.
If at any point we felt that medical support would be beneficial for you, we would always discuss that with you openly and transparently — never without your knowledge or consent. But rest assured, that is a separate path, and coming here does not automatically lead there.
Positive thinking is wonderful — but it has limits. Sometimes what we carry is deeper than a mindset shift can reach: old patterns, unspoken feelings, experiences that shaped us in ways we don't fully understand yet. Telling someone to 'just be happy' or 'think good thoughts' is a bit like telling someone with a broken leg to just walk it off.
Therapy — especially art-based therapy — gives you a real, structured, compassionate space to gently explore what's underneath. It doesn't replace positivity; it gives that positivity a solid foundation to stand on.
